ZMA (By Optimim Nutrition): Review

What does Optimum Nutrition ZMA do?

Optimum Nutrition ZMA contains a synergistic combination of Zinc Monomethionine and Magnesium coupled with vitamin B6. This particular combination of ingredients was put under the spotlight in recent clinical trials.

It was concluded that this blend was responsible for significantly increasing the anabolic hormone levels as well as muscle strength in “well-trained athletes”.

This novel formula also helps to increase endurance levels as well as providing substantial “healing” properties, most notably muscle growth as well as encouraging restful sleep.

Are the Ingredients Effective?

The main ingredients include zinc which is essential in maintaining healthy testosterone levels. ZMA provides 30 mg of zinc in every serving. Clinical tests have suggested that a minimum of 50 mg of zinc is required when trying to enhanced testosterone levels.

Further ingredients include magnesium which is proven to enhance “free” and “total” testosterone levels in athletes and non-athletes alike. Furthermore, magnesium is extremely effective in encouraging enhanced muscle relaxation, which is extremely useful in between workouts.

And finally, Optimum Nutrition ZMA features vitamin B6 which is required to help metabolize amino acids, lipids, and glucose inside the body. It is also helpful in tricking the brain into thinking that the stomach is full.

It has been suggested that Optimum Nutrition ZMA may provide better results when taken alongside Creatine, Glutamine, HMB, or “or other strength and recovery products”. This boggles the mind, because it begs the question… Why has Optimum Nutrition created a “testosterone booster” which has to be used alongside other products for it to be fully effective?

Are There Any Side Effects?

No major side-effects were found.

Is It Adequately Priced?

You can buy Optimum Nutrition ZMA for $21.43 for a month’s supply. It contains only two clinically proven ingredients that are known to enhance testosterone levels.

Furthermore, the recommended dosage required for effective testosterone enhancement to occur is not met, and the absence of further essential testosterone enhancing elements such as Fenugreek, and d-aspartic acid are absent.

From our experience, the missing elements are irreplaceable in terms of testosterone enhancement because the magnitude of their effectiveness is backed by clinical studies, means; products that do not feature these ingredients eventually prove to be poor testosterone enhancers.

On this basis, and because Optimum Nutrition have prepared a “half testosterone supplement”, that will only be effective (in their own words) when it is taken alongside other products, in our opinion, render the price inadequate.
